Discrimination

An exploration of flower essences for
discernment and good judgement

discrimination

  1. recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another; the ability to discern what is of high quality, good judgement or taste
  2. the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex

Discrimination is a very important concept and practice. There are two main meanings for discrimination I want to highlight in this article. First, discrimination is the recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another. It is the engagement of the mind to ascertain the nature of something, but it is also the ability to discern what is of high quality, good judgement or good taste. The second meaning is about the prejudicial treatment of people or things based upon race, age or sex.

Discrimination is the process of taking information that the mind gives you and combining it with experience, higher wisdom and understanding to find the difference between similar things. It is especially important to develop discrimination so that you can understand what supports your evolutionary journey and what holds you back.

Learning discrimination is about enhancing your sensitivity to all aspects of your being so that you can make choices that support you in ways that consider your highest good. An evaluation of your physical body needs can bring you several choices, all of which might be good for you but one might giver a greater support to your emotional well-being.

For instance, when considering your need for exercise, you may have the choice to: work out at a gym, which is great for your muscles; work part-time at a job slinging fifty pound flour sacks, which would give a little extra income in addition to the physical exercise; or babysitting your sister’s kids who love to play soccer with you, which, besides fulfilling your physical needs, benefits your sister, the kids, and your own emotional well-being. Discriminating between different things can lead to finding what can fine tune your consciousness and sense of well-being.

Finding discrimination is a process of engaging your sensitivity in the pursuit of what is of the highest for yourself. In other words, it is about becoming more finely attuned to what is in your highest good. It is about refining your perception of what keeps you centered, supported, and feeling whole.

This process of discerning what is of high quality, good judgement and good taste for yourself can help create or deepen compassion for others as well. When you uncover and want the best for yourself you will support the highest good for others as well.

It is very easy to get caught up in the flow of other people, what they want and need. You can quite easily just go with the flow of others’ desires and not even think to consider your own. Before you know it, you life is full and there is no time for what you might really want to engage in.

The Cloud of Illusion

Having clear perception can be hindered by many things of which we are not conscious. We have many fears that lurk beneath the surface that color our ability to discern. Unconscious fears, motivations, and guilt can all distort our perception.

Red Root flower essence can bring to the surface things that have been unconsciously coloring our perception of life. It helps shine the light of clear-seeing on fears, guilt, and negativity. It can show us things that underlie our motivations and decisions, so we can have clearer perception of why we behave and think as we do.

Red Root can also help us if we have been living with a cloud of illusion or a romantic distortion of reality. This flower essence helps us find within ourselves the source of truth that brings us clear perception.

Good and Bad Keeps You From Here and Now

One thing that can keep you from developing clear discernment of what is of high quality, and good judgement for yourself is the assessment that things in your life can all be categorized as good or bad. Your mind’s conclusion is that a certain experience was good for you or perhaps bad for you. This assessment keep you from being able to find the wisdom in a situation, especially if it was uncomfortable.

Whatever each moment of our lives brings to us is perfect. There really are no good or bad moments, only moments in which our soul brings us all the opportunities we need to know ourselves more fully.

We have all come to the earth because our Creator wanted it. Crown of Thorns can help us find that there is nothing we must do or be in order to deserve a life of unconditional love and joy. It is our own interpretation of life that creates suffering and a sense of limitation.

[…] If we constantly judge everything we encounter as good or bad, we make intellectual decisions about what is right for us. Crown of Thorns can bring us a deeper understanding of our essential nature so that we can accept things that complement it, regardless of what our mind assessments are.

Pre-Judgement of Others

The second definition of discrimination is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially in the grounds of race, age, or sex. The very nature of your mind to define people, places, things, and situations is a natural thing. However, when we base our understanding of the world solely on what our mind thinks, we are not practicing clear discernment of these things.

Your mind defines everything around you. It is necessary so that you can understand the world. However, within each of us is an energy that observes ourselves, that is more than the conclusions and categorization that the mind makes. It is when this consciousness marries with the observations of the mind that we can embrace an apparent duality.

Crown of Thorns flower essence can help us with this exact process.

This is the essence of choice for those of us who are caught up in believing in good and bad or negative and positive. Whatever we judge becomes the way we see it. We empower every event in life according to the judgments we make about them. We experience people according to how we see them. People are not their words and actions. Their essential nature is the same as ours. Crown of Thorns can help us move out of a dualistic view of life to one of unconditional love and acceptance.

Your experiences, or the experiences of others that you have heard about, can color your ability to clearly discern about other people. You may have come from a family in which one member had an experience with someone from a different race or class, and that person’s conclusion is coloring your own. Ancestral Patterns Formula can help you clarify and decide which patterns you have inherited from your family, or other societal group, you want to keep or release.

This essence can help you recognize any prejudicial beliefs about a certain culture, country, or race that you carry because of your own culture, country and race. Its support in the process of clear discernment can free you from perceptions that have been inherited and acting subconsciously within you.

Selecting the Most Appropriate Flower Essences

Not every flower essence mentioned above will be appropriate for every person’s specific needs. Different people have different issues. Usually, careful self-examination can clearly show you which of the above flower essences are most appropriate for you.

Though you can use more than one flower essence together, you probably will not need to use all of the ones mentioned here. After contemplating your relationship to this issue, select the flower essences that apply for you, or use an intuitive method to select among them. (For more information on how to do this, see The Art & Technique of Using Flower Essences.) A general guideline is to use four drops at a time, four times a day, in water. However, it is fine to follow your intuition and use them as often as you like. Most people find that they tend to use them more often in the beginning and less often towards the end of the cycle. Unless otherwise indicated, a cycle is usually two to four weeks. [more]
